Default Dungeons & Dragons 4

I'm disappointed, the fourth version seems much worse than 3.5, or any earlier version for that matter.

The new class system is nothing short of a disaster:
  • Prestige classes gone.
  • Two base classes (sorcerer, barbarian) gone.
  • Limited multiclassing (up to 2 classes, you can only take the second at level 10).

If you take a look at the weapon list, you'll notice that the critical range/multiplier of weapons is not listed. That's because there is no such mechanic in DnD4, criticals occur on a natural 20 (or 19 with feats) regardless of the weapon used. This means that the relative imbalancement of weapons is now even greater than before.

There may be many more issues, but I don't know of them atm as I haven't read the PHB yet.

In my opinion, DnD 4 was simplified to the point of being ruined. I'm definitely sticking with 3.5.

I can kinda see the limited multiclassing, but no prestige classes!? WTF are they thinking!? And it wasn't like the critical system was that difficult to begin with, so to dumb it down is just silly.

I'm glad I stopped at 3rd edition (never made it to 3.5 ). At this rate I can teach my dog how to play.

My Dungeons and Dragons stuff isn't pen-and-paper due to not having time and enough interested people, so I play computer games (xD), but I still find this really stupid. Sorcerers do suck though, at least from my Neverwinter Nights experiences anyway.

I'm not going to defend any editions of THAT game, but maybe you should read a manual before making your mind. Just looking at the pictures could sometimes lead to a wrong opinion.

I always saw PnP RPG rules as springboards for making your own stuff anyway. Like, for making your own fun stuff with a ruleset there to make it with, not to follow it to the letter.

I think that with 3.5 and now 4, wizards is trying to kill D&D and beat a dead horse. BTW, teiflings are in the player's handbook but Aasimars aren't? What's up with that? I don't remember seening half-elves or gnomes either.
